Made up of coriander, anise, fennel, caraway and cumin seeds, roots of licorice and díctam and cinnamon, this preparation was established over the centuries as a proven remedy in digestive problems, to avoid flatus, headaches , stress tensions and kidney ailments.

The Tisane of Papa Luna is a medieval medicinal recipe arising from the ancient Mediterranean pharmacological tradition. The original formula corresponds to a preparation of medicinal herbs popularized by Pope Benedict XIII from his pontifical headquarters in Peñíscola, during his stay between 1411 and 1423.
It is not surprising that Benedict XIII, known as Papa Luna, suffered from stress, headaches or stomach ailments and resorted to the Tisane that bears his name to mitigate his discomfort. The situation of the Catholic Church during his term was not for less. With an absolute division, Pope Luna was the undisputed protagonist of the Western Schism and had to face all the powers that be in Europe.
The medicinal concoction is considered as a classic and traditional Valencian remedy, which was prescribed during the XV, XVI and XVII centuries as a remedy of proven efficacy to avoid flatus, headaches, stress tensions, and kidney ailments.
The recipe of the Tisane of Papa Luna, includes different seeds in exact proportions: seeds of coriander, anise, fennel, caraway and cumin, roots of licorice and díctamo and cinnamon; all components that can be found in the local environment of Peñiscola and in the next Serra d’Irta.
